The shoes are officially done, and they went to their new owner the other day. She was pretty excited. A bit about my process: I started out with lots of sketching…and watching the movie over and over again. Any project that involves watching movies for research is a good one. I illustrated it with a pinstripe suit and wingtip shoes, which goes with the time period. Those were the good ol’ days, man. I had a little time to work on the shoes this week. The toe area is all done, and the heel on one shoe. Now I just have to finish up the sides. A friend of mine requested a pair of customized shoes. After mulling it over for a couple days (I’ve never worked with ink on canvas before), I got to sketching. She’s a huge Peter Pan + Tiger Lily fan, so I took that theme and ran with it. Here’s a look at my progress so [...] If I had to pick one mindless, but seemingly meaningful, thing to do for hours on end, it would be making color palettes. I don’t know what it is, but there’s something satisfying about digging through a jam-packed folder full of pics that were saved for some vitally important reason (that I then promptly forget) [...] |
